Shape Mods and Cuboids: Unusual speed cubes and shape-shifting puzzles

The world of speed cubes and twisty puzzles includes much more than 3x3 cubes. Here we introduce you to the so-called shape mods and cuboids. Shape mods stands for shape modification. These unusual twisty puzzles have classic mechanisms on the inside, i.e. similar to the 3x3 cube, for example. However, their shape in the solved configuration or at the latest during the solve is very different from a regular speed cube. But that is precisely what makes the shape mods so interesting.
Cuboids are also a fascinating variation of the known speed cube shapes. The term “cuboid” means cube-shaped, and we carry them in the versions 2x2x3 and 2x3x3.

Which puzzles are shape mods?

Fisher cube, Ghost cube and Mirror cube are all classic 3x3 shape mods and are probably the most famous shape modifications. All of them can also be described as shape-shifting, i.e. they will change their shape. This means that these unusual speed cubes no longer resemble a cube while they are being solved. Because of their single-coloured stickers, the Ghost cube and the Mirror cube are a little harder to solve.

What are cuboid twisty puzzles all about?

There are many modifications of the renowned and very popular classic 3x3 cube, as already mentioned above. More such modifications were added with the cuboids. Those can be divided roughly into two kinds:
2x2xN cuboids: Starting with 2x2x3 and up to 2x2x13.
3x3xN cuboids: Very popular are the versions 3x3x2 and 3x3x4.
NxNx1 cuboids: Also known as floppy cuboids and rather easy to solve.
