Which speed cubes are WCA cubes?

Special rules apply to World Cube Association (WCA) competitions. The same holds true for the speed cubes that can be used. For example, speedcubers must use their own cubes. This has the advantage that they can adjust their cubes to their liking, and they are already used to the feel of the twisty puzzle. However, all cubes brought to the competition must be approved by a WCA delegate.
WCA cubes must not have any electronic components, such as lights, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection. With a few exceptions, speed cubes and shape mods of all brands with an approved grid can be used. The sole requirement: all cubes must comply with the WCA rules.

Which events are part of WCA tournaments?

In total, there are 17 different events that speedcubers can register for. The following disciplines are available to choose from:

While the different types of speed cubes are all about solving the twisty puzzle with the best time, the other events go one step further. In the 'Blind' discipline, participants are only allowed to look at the cube briefly and then have to solve it as quickly as possible while blindfolded. In 'Fewest Moves', the cube must be solved in as few moves as possible and in 'One-Handed', the cuber may only use one hand. 'Multi-Blind' is the most challenging event in speedcubing competitions.

WCA tournament records

Records are regularly set at WCA competitions. One name that pops up again and again is that of speedcuber Max Park, who is also a member of the Gurus team at GAN. He holds many records in various disciplines. The current rankings can be found on the official website of the World Cube Association.
